1. ‘We got lucky': Survivor of Killeen apartment fire speaks on community coming to their aid (kwtx.com) — Families at Killeen’s Century Plaza apartments are rebuilding after a devastating early-morning fire destroyed homes and belongings, but local groups are stepping up fast. United Way of Central Texas and LULAC Council #4297 are collecting money, goods, and toys so affected residents, especially children, can recover and still celebrate Christmas. Neighbors and strangers are also offering food, clothing, and furniture.

Pressure builds on Pentagon to investigate handling of patients' misconduct complaints amid Darnall recording scandal (kdhnews.com) — Killeen residents are seeing Fort Hood back in the national spotlight as a Darnall Army Medical Center gynecologist faces dozens of indecent recording charges and over 100 former patients pursue civil action. Local advocates, including a Killeen LULAC leader, are joining bipartisan members of Congress in demanding a broad Pentagon review of how misconduct complaints against military medical providers are handled.
