1. 5 from Harvard named Marshall Scholars (harvard.edu) — A Harvard student from McKinney Kashish Bastola, has been named a 2026 Marshall Scholar and will study military history at the University of Oxford. The prestigious U.K.-based scholarship supports his research on Cold War-era U.S. involvement with the Tibetan resistance, building on his extensive undergraduate work in history, research, and public service.
   

2. Mother's boyfriend allegedly beat her 3-year-old son to death — and officials say she turned a blind eye (theblaze.com) — A 3-year-old boy who was taken to Medical City McKinney with extensive injuries has died, and both his mother and her boyfriend now face capital murder charges, according to Texas authorities. Investigators say evidence from their Collin County apartment and electronic devices suggests the child suffered repeated abuse over at least a month, and that the adults delayed seeking full medical help, allegedly fearing a CPS investigation.
   

3. "Fireball Dropped Straight Down Out Of The Sky": Dazzling Sight Wows North Texans (dallasexpress.com) — Many McKinney residents may have seen a brilliant blue-green fireball that lit up North Texas skies Tuesday evening, one of nearly 200 reports to the American Meteor Society. The meteor, visible across several states, was described as unusually bright and slow-moving, and may be an early arrival ahead of this weekend’s Geminid meteor shower peak.
   

4. GCISD board votes to close two elementary schools (fox4news.com) — McKinney ISD is part of a growing wave of North Texas districts closing schools to cope with falling enrollment and budget strains, similar to Grapevine-Colleyville’s new decision to shut two elementaries. While the detailed vote here centers on GCISD, it signals the same financial pressures that recently led McKinney trustees to approve closing three elementary campuses.
