• ‘Valor and Justice': Animals rescued from alleged East Texas dog fighting ring to be rehabilitated at Taurus Academy (kxan.com) — Law enforcement recently uncovered an alleged dog fighting ring in Newton County, Texas, leading to 45 arrests and an ongoing investigation by the sheriff’s office. Two of the rescued dogs, now named Valor and Justice, are being rehabilitated in Austin with hopes of eventual adoption. The case is drawing attention to dog fighting and animal cruelty across East Texas.
   

• Brahmas win stunner (fbherald.com) — Newton’s 13-1 Eagles are set to face East Bernard in the Class 3A Division II state semifinals after the Brahmas shocked top-ranked Tidehaven with a late 34-31 comeback.
