- On Jun. 29, a shooting occurred at Carriage House Apartments in Odessa, resulting in multiple gunshot victims. Four individuals arrived at Odessa Regional Medical Center in a truck, confirming their involvement in the shooting. One of the victims, a 16-year-old male, tragically succumbed to his injuries. - Josh White, a firefighter paramedic with Odessa Fire Rescue, is not only known for his bravery and dedication to his job but also for being a loving husband and father. In April, he received the devastating news of being diagnosed with appendiceal cancer, a rare condition affecting only 1 percent of people. Despite his diagnosis, White continues to contribute to the firefighting community through administrative tasks and helping with training and tutoring, while receiving support from his work family and the broader firefighting industry. - The Midland Municipal Scholarship Fund (MMESF) organized its sixth annual Freedom Run 5K and 10K on Saturday, which saw a larger turnout than anticipated. Participants gathered early in front of Midland Memorial Stadium, dressed in patriotic attire, to support the cause. The event aimed to raise funds for scholarships, and this year MMESF awarded $42,000 in scholarships, with hopes of surpassing that amount next year. Additionally, MMESF will host a Pancake Breakfast event in the fall, and more details can be found on their website. (NewsWest9)
