Here are the top three stories today in Odessa-Midland:

  1. The Texas Department of Public Safety has revealed details and the identity of the drivers involved in the fatal crash and train collision that took place on Apr. 19 in Odessa. During the incident, a Honda failed to yield the right of way on Murphy Street and struck a Ford traveling in the opposite direction, forcing the Ford onto the train tracks. The driver of the Ford was able to get out of the vehicle before it was hit by a passing train; he was later taken to the hospital in stable condition. The driver of the Honda, John Edward Grube, 86, was killed in the accident, and his passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition. (NewsWest9.com)
  2. The Odessa Police Department is looking for information about suspects that have been allegedly stealing from Home Depot. The Home Depot, located at 5181 E. 42nd St., has recently reported multiple thefts in the store, and the police department pulled several photos of various individuals from surveillance cameras who are suspected of being involved in the thefts. Officials are asking anyone who recognizes them or has any other relevant information to please call Detective M. Troglin at 432-284-2012 or Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS. (Odessa Police Department via Facebook)
  3. The City of Midland Animal Services will be limiting the intake of dogs through May 2 to emergencies only. The limiting of intakes comes from the closing of the facility a few weeks ago due to the uptick in symptomatic animals showing signs of illness. The facility will be back up and running by Apr. 25 at normal operating hours, but intake for dogs with the exception of emergencies will not start until May 2. Emergency cases are defined as "dogs which are severely injured, ill, are in danger themselves, or pose a danger to the community."Anyone needing to surrender a dog before May 2 will need to set up an appointment.
