  1. The West Texas Food Bank and Keep Midland Beautiful hosted an Earth Day celebration in Midland, offering free trees, tomato plants, and seeds to attendees over the weekend. The event aimed to educate the community on environmental protection and food growth. The organizers plan to continue the tradition next year. (NewsWest9)
  2. Last Thursday, Midland police arrested Octavious Hubbard, 29, for capital murder in connection to the death of his girlfriend's son. According to an arrest affidavit, the victim was in Hubbard’s care when numerous visible injuries, including a blood-stained garment, led to the conclusion someone had struck the child victim three or more times in the head. Hubbard was taken to the Midland County Jail under a $1 million bond. (NewsWest9)
  3. The University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) celebrated its largest Falcon Day in university history earlier this month. On Saturday, Apr. 1, UTPB welcomed more than 450 prospective students and their families to campus for Falcon Day, where guests get a glimpse of college life and hear from current students about their college experience. Each academic year UT Permian Basin hosts four Falcon Days in October, November, February, and April. (EIN News)

  • Join Odessa and Midland city leaders to discuss a proposed multipurpose corridor and trail on May 4 at 6:00 p.m. Titled the Wildcatter Trail Kickoff, community members will get a chance to learn about the potential new bicycle/pedestrian corridor linking the two cities.   • Odessa native Jason Cotton was named the new Odessa fire chief. Cotton served as the interim chief for four months and has been with Odessa Fire Rescue for 27 years. He is one of many in his family who are firefighters. (CBS 7)
