- The Salvation Army in Odessa and Midland organized a fan drive to assist the community in coping with the hot weather. They donated 250 new box fans to individuals in need, and fans were made available for pick-up at their locations in Odessa and Midland. The initiative aimed to provide relief and help reduce electric bills for families during the heatwave, while also offering cooling stations at the Salvation Army for people to relax and access water and refreshments. - The Odessa Police Department reported that Gonzolo Armendariz, 43, deliberately crashed a car into the main entrance of an H-E-B store in Odessa, resulting in approximately $50,000 in damages. Armendariz engaged in a physical altercation with a security guard, and the investigation revealed that he was intoxicated and in possession of a firearm while also pulling the fire alarm. Armendariz has been charged with multiple offenses, including DWI, unlawful carrying of a weapon, false alarm, assault on a security officer, criminal mischief, and assault causing bodily injury, and has been taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. - During their meeting on Jul. 11, the Midland City Council unanimously voted to hire Tommy Gonzalez as the new City Manager. Gonzalez brings valuable experience from his previous roles as city manager in Irving and El Paso. The decision to hire Gonzalez came after a search process that began in April following the retirement of Robert Patrick. (NewsWest9.com)

- Nueva Vista Golf Club in Midland will be permanently closing on Jul. 24. The club will not be charging member dues, cart fees, or range ball fees for July. The club expressed its gratitude for the opportunity to serve West Texas golfers since 1999. (NewsWest9.com)
- Kannin Shorter's charges have been upgraded to capital murder in connection with the shooting at the Carriage House Apartments. He is considered armed and dangerous, and authorities are asking the public to report any information on his whereabouts to the Odessa Police Department or Odessa Crime Stoppers. The police are also seeking the identity of the shooter's accomplice, known as "K-SO," and any information regarding his identity. (City of Odessa, Texas via Facebook)
