Here are the top three stories today in Odessa-Midland:

  1. Two Midlanders have been charged with child endangerment after giving fentanyl pills to two children in a Tylenol bottle. The pills were discovered when a Walmart employee stopped them for theft, and they consented to a search of their persons. The suspects, Tracy Cadotte, 54, and Sergio Matthew Gonzalez, 30, were charged with a state felony and misdemeanors and have been released on bond. (Subscription: MRT.com)
  2. Odessans flew Kites at the Basin Sports Complex for Kite Fest on Saturday, Apr. 15. A variety of unique kites were flown at the event, some small and others quite large, including fish kites, a dinosaur, and kites so large they required a group of people to hold them up to get them off the ground. People of all ages attended and flew kites at the festival and local food vendors were on-site at the park. Odessa American has posted an image gallery of the festival and all the unique kites and their fliers, available at the link. (Odessa American)
  3. The United Way of Odessa held its Day of Caring where volunteers and staff from various organizations came together on Saturday to improve the facilities of three different local organizations, including the Permian Basin Mission Center, the Odessa Boys and Girls Club, and the Salvation Army. Even small improvements like repainting a building can mean a lot to these organizations and show that the United Way is willing to help in more ways than just funding. This event is a testament to the United Way of Odessa's commitment to the community. (NewsWest9)
