La Porte PD Offering Rape Defense Course Oct. 3,5, 10 and 12

La Porte PD will offer a rape defense course on Oct. 3,5, 10 and 12.

LA PORTE, TX — The La Porte Police Department will be offering a Rape Aggression Defense course Oct. 3,5,10 and 12. The course will be held at police headquarters, 3001 N. 23rd St., in La Porte.

Although the RAD program is a comprehensive, realistic self-defense class it is not a martial arts program. The class begins with classroom-based orientation where workbooks and reference manuals lay the course foundation.

The course begins by teaching students awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance, before progressing towards the basics of hands-on defense training.

The course is spread over four, three-hour days and is open only to women over 13 years old. Anyone under 18 years old must have a parent or guardian in attendance.

There are spots for 15 students, registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. The course is free, all materials will be provided, classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the four nights.
