PASADENA, TX — The National Weather Service confirmed late Sunday that a tornado touched down in Pasadena Sunday morning, destroying trees and downing power lines. An estimated 10,000 CenterPoint customers remained without power on Monday morning, which forced Pasadena ISD to cancel classes at South Houston High School.

Officials said high winds from an EF 1 tornado, which has sustained winds between 70-120 miles per hour, snapped trees and power lines near the intersection of Fairmont Parkway and South Shaver Street, causing damage to businesses in a nearby strip mall, witnesses reported.

“It turned dark, the wind picked up and you could say, it all broke loose right here,” Pasadena resident David Sunday told KPRC. “It was like toothpicks, and I mean it went ‘pop, pop, pop,’ and the trees were just snapping."
