Garland, Texas - In a high-speed chase led by a Rockwall County sheriff's deputy, two individuals tragically lost their lives in the early hours of Thursday, as confirmed by authorities.

The two deceased, whose identities are withheld until their families are notified, were in a Dodge Charger, the subject of the deputy's pursuit. The involved deputy fortunately was not injured in the incident.

The chase began shortly after midnight on a service road near Interstate 30 in Rockwall County. During his patrol, a deputy encountered three vehicles parked with their headlights off. Another deputy soon located these vehicles and noted them committing several traffic violations, according to an official statement from the sheriff's department.

When the deputy activated his patrol lights, the vehicles separated, each heading in different directions. The deputy decided to follow the black Dodge Charger, which was moving north on Texas State Highway 205.

The Charger then turned west onto Texas State Highway 78, passing through Wylie and Sachse before heading towards the President George Bush Turnpike. It was there that the car met a tragic end, crashing into a concrete barrier and igniting on impact.

Sadly, the male and female passengers of the Charger sustained fatal injuries: one passed away at the crash site, while the other later died at a nearby hospital.

Officers from the Garland Police Department, who arrived at the scene but weren't involved in the chase, confirmed that the Charger had left the highway's exit ramp before catching fire.

Subsequent inquiries revealed that all three vehicles present at the night's outset were reported stolen.
