Here are the top stories today in Round Rock:
- For the week of Aug. 25, Williamson County and Cities Health District is unable to compile the daily COVID-19 cases to update the dashboard and the weekly report, due to a database issue. Staff is working to identify and fix the problem as soon as possible. (Mail Chimp)
- Texas State University Professor Rodney Rhode addresses some stigmas of the monkeypox virus, how it weighs down on everyone during the COVID-19 pandemic, and advocates for vaccine equity. He also emphasizes that prioritizing public health funding is paramount, as microbes can kill more people globally than wars and acts of terror. (Elsevier)
- The Round Rock Police Department have charged Nicholas Carter-Cain, 19, for manslaughter (Felony 2) for unintentionally shooting and killing his friend Arturo Granados in the 1600 block of Gattis School Road on April 19. The shooting incident at the Round Rock Skate Park occurred due to an isolated fight between two groups. When the opposing group began shooting, Carter-Cain fired back with his firearm and unintentionally shot his roommate and friend, Granados. (Round Rock Police Department via Facebook)
