1. U.S. Route 90 to receive huge expansion, almost $500 million cost (spectrumlocalnews.com) — Drivers on San Antonio’s U.S. Route 90 face years of construction as TxDOT plans a two-phase, nearly $500 million expansion from I-410 to SH 211. The project will add lanes, new flyovers, roundabouts, and turnarounds, with work potentially stretching to 2030 and 2032, significantly reshaping west-side commutes and traffic flow.
   

2. Sewage overflow plagues east-side San Antonio apartment residents; SAWS urges prompt reporting (kens5.com) — Residents at San Antonio’s Diamonte Apartments on East Commerce are dealing with sewage overflowing from a clogged private sewer line into a storm drain, raising health concerns. SAWS says they can’t repair private lines but urges residents citywide to promptly report any suspected sewage or water line problems with clear addresses so crews and code compliance can act quickly.
   

3. Plans moving ahead for new Northeast Side park and community center (ksat.com) — A major new park, community center, and senior affordable housing project is moving forward for San Antonio’s Northeast Side at Midcrown and Eisenhauer. A Thursday TIRZ board vote on up to $2 million for design work, followed by City Council approval, could jump-start long-sought green space and facilities in an increasingly industrial area with few public amenities.
   

4. San Antonio International Airport to begin runway safety upgrades (ksat.com) — If you’re flying in or out of San Antonio soon, expect changes as San Antonio International Airport closes one of its main runways from Jan. 12 to March 6 for safety upgrades. Crews will repair concrete, add LED lighting, and refresh markings, with FAA funding helping keep disruptions minimal while improving long-term reliability.
   

5. A visit to St. PJ's honors Annie Ehler Orts (wilsoncountynews.com) — A San Antonio children’s home with deep local roots just received a heartfelt visit and donation from the grandchildren of former resident Annie Ehler Orts. Relatives from San Antonio and other Texas towns toured St. PJ’s, learned its history, and honored Annie’s journey from orphanage resident to Poth resident while highlighting the home’s ongoing mission to support children in crisis.
