San Antonio will rename East Side street in honor of the Tuskegee Airmen (expressnews.com) — San Antonio is renaming part of Iowa Street on the East Side to Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Way, honoring local members of the famed World War II squadron. The change, championed by the San Antonio chapter and District 2 Council Member Jalen McKee-Rodriguez, will include new street signs, a bronze plaque listing members’ names, and a community commemoration ceremony.

Faith Kitchen serves up hope alongside holiday meals (kens5.com) — A San Antonio nonprofit kitchen is dishing up a full holiday feast while serving dignity and mentorship to neighbors experiencing homelessness. Executive Chef Lorris Gibson, a Haven for Hope alum, leads a team of cooks with similar lived experience, offering comfort food, connection, and plans to expand Faith Kitchen’s capacity to reach even more people in need.
   

3. Fire Marshal bans certain fireworks in Bexar County amid drought concerns (news4sanantonio.com) — If you’re planning fireworks near San Antonio, know that Bexar County has banned rockets with sticks and missiles with fins because of ongoing drought, and fireworks remain illegal inside city limits. Officials urge residents to attend professional shows instead and stress basic safety tips for anyone still buying consumer fireworks in unincorporated areas.
   

4. How San Antonio's marmosets contribute to longevity research (sanantonioreport.org) — San Antonio’s Texas Biomed hosts one of the nation’s largest marmoset colonies, driving major research into aging, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and infectious diseases. Local scientists use these tiny monkeys to test longevity drugs, study the microbiome and support global conservation, while working to reduce animal harm through new research methods and collaborations with UTSA and national partners.
   

5. USO of South Texas brings holiday cheer to soldiers at Fort Sam Houston (ksat.com) — Service members staying at Fort Sam Houston over the holidays are getting extra support in San Antonio, as the USO of South Texas hosts events to fight loneliness and build community. Trainees say the gatherings help them find a ‘military family’ while they’re far from home in Military City USA.
