Sugar Land Residents Warned After Bobcat Spotted In Greatwood

Love Is In The Air: It's mating season for bobcats and coyotes, and officials warn these animals can be aggressive.

SUGAR LAND, TX — Residents in the Greatwood Subdivision are asked to be watchful of their pets after one resident snapped a photo of a bobcat perched on her fence.

Officials said January thru March is the mating season for bobcats and coyotes, which are both common species in communities outside of Houston.

Officials warn that coyotes and bobcats can be aggressive during the mating season, and should be avoided.

Bobcats and coyotes are usually active at dawn or dusk and are nocturnal creatures. Bobcats will not usually attack a person, unless they are threatened or cornered.

A fully grown bobcat can weigh as much as 40 pounds, are known to hunt rabbits, rodents, and birds.

In the interest of safety, officials ask that residents keep their pets indoors at night.
