City of Tyler prepares for 10-ton surge of post-holiday waste, encourages recycling (kltv.com) — Tyler officials are bracing for about 10 extra tons of holiday trash and urging residents to recycle cardboard, gift wrap and live trees instead of sending them to the landfill. The city’s recycling center expects its busiest months from November through January and is offering post-Christmas tree drop-off and safety reminders about bulky or hazardous items. 
2. ETCOG offering free grant workshops for criminal justice funding (ketk.com) — Free online grant workshops on criminal justice funding are being offered region-wide by ETCOG, with the effort based out of Tyler and focused on improving public safety. From Dec. 20 through Jan. 20, 2026, applicants can learn how to strengthen proposals and meet funding requirements for four key programs supporting crime victims and local jurisdictions across East Texas.
3. Tyler Council of Church Women celebrate 90 years of unity and wellness (ketk.com) — A longtime ecumenical group in Tyler is marking 90 years of bringing women from different churches and backgrounds together to serve local families. The Tyler Council of Church Women helped launch two day care centers and the first child welfare unit for Tyler and Smith County, and members say their mission of unity and community care is still going strong.
4. Executive Order to end birthright citizenship alarms East Texas community (kltv.com) — Tyler immigration attorneys are fielding panicked calls as residents brace for a Supreme Court review of President Trump’s paused executive order targeting birthright citizenship. Local lawyer Ginger Young says uncertainty over the 14th Amendment’s protections is unsettling many East Texans, with a ruling expected next summer that could reshape how citizenship is granted to children born in the U.S.
5. An East Texas Christmas tree farm closes after 40 years, despite booming sales (texarkanagazette.com) — A beloved choose-and-cut Christmas tree farm located between Tyler and Longview has closed after 40 years, as owners James and Mary Robinson retire with no successor. Families from Tyler and across East Texas made a final trip this month to Danville Farms, where generations built holiday traditions among the pines. The Robinsons are encouraging loyal customers to try a newer tree farm about 30 miles away next year.

Luna, a cat who went missing in Tyler, TX, has been safely reunited with their family after 7 hours, 45 minutes. Message from Owner: "She got out… (Nextdoor Woodland Hills) - Could anybody in this neighborhood by Purdue keep an eye out for my Smokey white/ gray Persian her name is Luna.
She doesn’t have on a collar, but she is micro chipped. She got out when no one was looking and we can’t find her 9033606615 (Nextdoor Heritage South)
