Victoria County Fire Marshal implements fees for business fire inspections (crossroadstoday.com) — Starting Jan. 1, Victoria County businesses will begin paying fees for fire inspections as the Fire Marshal’s Office works to keep up with growing construction and limited staff. Fire Marshal Dan Porter says the new revenue will fund more personnel and better facilities, while mirroring the City of Victoria’s existing inspection fee schedule to strengthen fire prevention and safety for residents and customers.
   

2. New bill could create significant costs for Victoria ISD buses (victoriaadvocate.com) — Victoria ISD may face up to $4.8 million in costs to replace or retrofit 31 aging school buses to meet a new state mandate requiring three-point seat belts for all passengers by 2029. District transportation leaders say all noncompliant buses are already beyond their useful life, and they’re unsure whether the state will provide any funding help or deadline flexibility.

Barnett's 5 TDs powers Yoakum to state title (victoriaadvocate.com) — Yoakum football fans just saw history made, as the Bulldogs captured their first-ever state championship behind a record-tying five-touchdown performance from senior X’Zavier Barnett. The title game recap comes via Victoria’s own Victoria Advocate sports desk, highlighting how a nearby program brought home a 3A Division I crown and spotlighting standout efforts on both sides of the ball.
