Here are the top three stories today in Victoria:
- On Thursday, May 18, Victoria law enforcement agencies will host a public memorial ceremony to honor officers who have died in the line of duty. The event, which will take place at DeLeon Plaza, will feature a City proclamation and County resolution recognizing National Police Week, as well as a roll call of fallen Texas officers and the placement of a memorial wreath. Additionally, the city and county will lower flags to half-staff on May 15 to commemorate National Peace Officers Memorial Day. (Crossroads Today)
- Victoria County will be placed under two river flood warnings starting this evening (Thursday, May 11), according to authorities. The first flood warning will be for the Guadalupe River at Victoria, which is expected to rise above flood stage early tomorrow morning and peak at 23.9 feet on Saturday morning. The second warning will be for the Guadalupe River near Bloomington, which is expected to rise above flood stage this evening and crest at 22.6 feet on Saturday morning. (Crossroads Today)
- On May 3, 5th and Home Furniture & Mattress in Victoria celebrated its Bassett Design Center remodel with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The redesigned 3,000-square-foot gallery includes new paint, signage, products, and lighting, with the goal of improving the shopping experience. The store has been family-owned for five generations and is currently owned by Paige and Ben Streiff. (Furniture Today)

- According to recent data, the state of Texas had the tenth-highest rate of U.S. teen driver fatalities in 2022. Bumper.com reports that “young drivers are statistically more likely than other age groups to be involved in fatal accidents.” (Bumper.com)
- The South Texas Children's Home (STCH) has opened a branch in Victoria. STCH is a faith-based organization that offers housing and counseling services to children and families. (Crossroads Today)
- On May 6, voters approved a $10 million bond for the construction of a Student Success Center at Victoria College. The funds will go toward expanding and renovating the current Student Center, which will allow a variety of student services to live in a centralized location. (Crossroads Today)
