1. Mike Copeland: Homes sales flat; Convent construction; Barbecue, wine; Gas prices slide (star-telegram.com) — Waco’s housing market stayed steady in November, with 173 homes sold and prices and days-on-market only slightly shifting from last year. New permits include major work at the Sisters of Mary Morning Star convent, park restrooms, a Taco Bueno remodel, and Baylor offices, while Greater Waco gas prices slid to about $2.37 a gallon, easing holiday travel costs.

2. Waco short film named to Oscar shortlist (abc27.com) — Two Baylor professors in Waco have landed their short film “Ado” on the Oscars shortlist for Best Live Action Short, after winning several major festivals. The film, praised by the Waco Indie Film Festival, now competes with 14 others as Academy members vote ahead of the March 15, 2026 ceremony.

3. Man accused of using flashlight and stick as weapons against several law enforcement agencies (fox44news.com) — A late-night vehicle burglary in Robinson escalated into a struggle where officers say the suspect used a flashlight and stick as weapons, prompting help from Waco Police and other local agencies. After multiple Taser deployments, the man was restrained, treated at a local hospital, and booked into McLennan County Jail on burglary, assault on public servant, and resisting arrest charges.

4. Who is Judge Dianne Hensley and why is she trying to overturn same-sex marriage in the US? (gaysonoma.com) — A Waco-based justice of the peace, Judge Dianne Hensley, is suing to overturn the U.S. Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling, Obergefell v. Hodges. Her case stems from past sanctions over refusing to perform same-sex weddings and could eventually test how far Texas judges may go in citing religious beliefs while serving local residents.

5. EHV-1 outbreak prompts urgent alert for horse owners (viannews.com) — Horse owners whose animals attended the World Championship Barrel Racing Finals in Waco are being warned about a multi-state Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1) outbreak linked to recent events in Texas and Oklahoma. Officials urge strict quarantine, temperature monitoring, and disinfection for any horses that traveled to affected events, since the neurologic form of the virus can be deadly and has no fully protective vaccine.
