'Affluenza Teen' Ethan Couch Leaves Mexico, Goes Directly To Jail
The teenager famous for his legal defense in a fatal 2013 drunk driving crash was finally put in a Texas jail Thursday.
Ethan Couch, the teenager whose lawyer said “affluenza” caused a fatal drunk driving wreck in 2013, was booked Thursday into the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center after being deported from Mexico.
Media photos showed Couch, 18, sporting a scraggly beard and being escorted through an airport in Mexico and then in Dallas.

A court hearing was scheduled for Friday, during which a judge could decide to move Couch to an adult jail, according to the Associated Press.
“Thanks to all for the hard work to make this happen,” Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson tweeted Thursday. “Let’s move forward with justice.”

Couch was convicted of killing four people while driving drunk in 2013 but avoided prison time when his lawyer argued that he suffered from “affluenza,” a condition stemming from growing up in a wealthy household where he never learned the consequences of his actions.
“Affluenza” is not a medically recognized term or disease.
Instead, he was sentenced to 10 years probation, which he violated in December when he was seen at a party where alcohol was served, and he missed a mandatory check-in.
Couch and his mother, Tonya, fled to Mexico where they were eventually arrested in late December after a pizza order tipped authorities off to their whereabouts.
