Good morning! It's Wednesday, and you're halfway through the week. Here's what you need to know to start your day.
Amazon Jobs Day
Amazon will open the doors of 10 of its fulfillment centers across the U.S. on Wednesday as part of the company's first "Jobs Day" hiring event. The company is aiming to hire about 50,000 full-time and part-time employees across the nation this week and will be handing out "on-the-spot" job offers on Wednesday. In January, Amazon announced that it would hire 100,000 workers across the U.S. through 2018. (Patch)

Justice Department To Target Affirmative Action Policies
The federal government will focus much of its civil rights enforcement efforts on targeting colleges and universities that have affirmative action policies favoring racial minorities, according to documents obtained by the New York Times. Some in the Justice Department believe these policies result in unlawful discrimination against white students. Under President Trump, the department has moved away from defending voting rights, reducing police misconduct and protecting LGBT rights. (New York Times)

Young Woman Miscarries After Being Pepper-Sprayed, Assaulted By NYPD: Lawsuit
A 31-year-old woman is part of a civil rights lawsuit saying she suffered a miscarriage while in NYPD custody earlier this year after being pepper-sprayed and shoved against a wall by a pack of police officers in the Bronx. Norma Reyes — along with Julius Segars, the father of her unborn child, and his 16-year-old cousin Kurt Gorin — filed the lawsuit against the City of New York and six police officers on Tuesday, alleging the officers "intentionally and willfully" subjected all three of them to "false arrest and excessive force" on May 15.
