Grocery, Retail, Drugstore Christmas Hours: What To Know About Early Closings
Many, but not all, grocery stores will close early on Christmas Eve. And last-minute shoppers need to be aware of retail early closings.
There will be a few places to pick up last-minute groceries on Christmas Day, but not many — and those that are may not be conveniently located or may close early.
Grocery stores will be open on Wednesday, but may observe early Christmas Eve closings. The same goes for other retail stores. It’s a good idea to call ahead or check websites to confirm hours for local stores.

When Do Grocery Stores Close On Christmas Eve?
Albertsons Companies’ stores — Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme, Tom Thumb, Randalls, United Supermarkets, Pavilions, Star Market, Carrs, and Balducci’s Food Lovers Market — typically close between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Christmas Day, depending on location. Some stores will be open on Christmas Day, but will have modified hours.
Aldi stores will close at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will remain closed on Christmas Day.

BJ’s Wholesale Club stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
Costco stores will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
Fareway stores will close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
Food Lion typically closes at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
The Fresh Market stores will close around 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day.
Giant stores normally close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Many will be open on Christmas Day, but may observe limited hours.
Hy-Vee stores will close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
Kroger stores — including Ralphs, Food4Less, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Fry’s, Harris Teeter, Smith’s, Dillons, QFC, Mariano's, Pick 'n Save, and Baker’s — close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Stores remain closed on Christmas Day.
Lidl stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
Meijer stores close early, typically around 6 p.m. or 7 p.m., depending on location, All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
Piggly Wiggly stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m on Christmas Eve, although hours may vary by location. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
Publix stores will close between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve, but will be closed on Christmas Day.
Sam’s Club will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
Sprouts Farmers Market will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
Stop & Shop stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day.
Target will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day.
Trader Joe’s stores will close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day.
Walmart will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day.
Wegmans stores will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day.
Whole Foods stores will be open on Christmas Eve, though many will close early. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
Winn-Dixie stores close at 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will remain closed on Christmas Day.
Are Drugstores Open On Christmas?
Most retail stores will be closed on Christmas Day, but there are exceptions such as CVS, whose pharmacies will generally be open but may have reduced hours. Most Walgreens stores will be closed, but 24-hour locations with 24-hour pharmacies will be open.
Are Convenience Stores Open On Christmas?
Most 7-Eleven, Quik Trip, Circle K, Sheetz, Cumberland Farms, Maverick/Kum&Go, Kwik Trip/Kwik Star, Wawa and Speedway convenience stores will be open regular hours on Christmas Day.
Casey’s General Store will be open on Christmas Day, but will operate on a modified schedule. QuickCheck convenience stores will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Day.
When Do Retail Stores Close On Christmas Eve?
Some retail stores will observe normal hours on Christmas Eve, but many will close early. Here’s what we know:
Academy Sports + Outdoors stores will operate normal hours on Christmas Eve.
Barnes & Noble bookstores will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m, on Christmas Eve
Best Buy stores will close early on Christmas Eve, at 6 p.m. or 7 p.m, depending on the location.
Big Lots stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Dick’s Sporting Goods: Dick’s Sporting Goods is open on Christmas Eve from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Dollar General stores will close at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve, but some locations may operate under modified schedules.
Hobby Lobby will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
JCPenney stores will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Kohl’s stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Macy’s stores will close early on Christmas Eve, usually around 6 p.m.
Michaels stores are expected to be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Office Depot/Office Max stores will close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Staples stores are expected to operate normal hours on Christmas Eve.
