Is Amazon Web Services Down? The Latest On Outages

ACROSS AMERICA — Amazon Web Services encountered a major service interruption Tuesday, primarily along the East Coast, according to the outage reporting site Downdetector.

The site only reports incidents when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for the day.

The root cause of the problem has been identified — a network issue with some devices in the region that has affected multiple services, Anupam Kumar, a technology account manager said in an official company statement on the Downdetector website.

"We are actively working towards recovery," Kumar said.

The majority of the approximately 1 million AWS customers are small and mid-size companies. Among those on record as publicly using the service are:
