Arizona High School Shooting: 2 Female Students Killed: Police
Independence High School in Glendale, Arizona, was the site of a double shooting Friday morning involving two sophomore girls, police said.
GLENDALE, AR - Two female students died in a double shooting Friday at an Arizona High School, police told reporters in a press conference.
Police received a report of a shooting at the school just before 8 a.m. from inside Independence High School. Authorities were at the scene within two minutes of receiving the call, police said.Two 15-year-old female students were located and pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

According to police, both females were found next to each other suffering from a single gunshot wound with a weapon lying near them. At this point, police do not believe there are any outstanding suspects. When asked if the event was possible a double-suicide or a murder-suicide, police said they could not confirm the nature of the shooting.
The double shooting was an isolated incident, police said, and the school and surrounding neighborhood was safe.

Parents were asked to stage at the Walmart nearby. Release information was provided on the Glendale Union High School District Facebook page.
Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers said the tragedy hit close to home.

Ariz. Gov. Doug Doucey issued the following statement on the shooting:
“As details of this morning’s tragic shooting continue to be released, our hearts remain with the students, educators and families of Independence High School and the entire Glendale community.
“I commend the police officers, first responders, school safety officials, teachers and school administrators for their swift response and diligent work to secure the area and protect the students at the school. The state of Arizona continues to watch the situation closely, and stands at the ready to offer any support the school or community need.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them, with everyone on scene and with the community during this difficult time.”
