Border Patrol Finds Marijuana Disguised As Carrots
Nearly 2,500 pounds of pot were seized at the Pharr International Bridge.
Border Patrol agents intercepted a shipment of nearly 2,500 pounds of marijuana that smugglers were trying to get into the United States from Mexico — all disguised as a shipment of carrots.
The smugglers were busted at the cargo facility at the Pharr International Bridge, which connects the cities of Pharr, in Texas, and Reynosa, in Mexico, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol release.
The officers performed a non-intrusive inspection on the shipment then brought out canines for support. They found “packages of suspected narcotics hidden within the bags of carrots.”

In all, officers seized 2,817 “carrot-shaped packages” containing 2,493 pounds of marijuana, which would be worth almost half a million dollars on the street.
“Once again, drug smuggling organizations have demonstrated their creativity in attempting to smuggle large quantities of narcotics across the U.S.-Mexico border,” Port Director Efrain Solis Jr. said in the release.
