Bus Carrying 48 Passengers Crosses Median, Crashes Into Car

The accident in Benson, North Carolina happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A bus collided with a car early Friday morning on I-95 near Benson, North Carolina, killing one and injuring nine more, according to WRAL.

The bus was carrying 48 passengers from Queens, New York, to Fayetteville, North Carolina, for a religious conference.

The person who died was driving the car. Four of the nine who were injured are in critical condition and include the bus driver, an infant on the bus and a child in the car.

The crash happened around 4 a.m., when the bus crossed the median near mile marker 81 near Johnston County.

Per WRAL, Johnston County EMS chief Billy Langston said “the southbound bus crossed the median, then the driver apparently tried to correct and crossed back into the southbound lanes, hitting the car.”

It could have been worse but came at a slow time of day.

“Our traffic demand was at its lowest, so we were able to have one of the best scenarios given to us,” Langston said. “Our resources were at max availability, and the traffic was the least it could be.”
