'Clock Kid' Ahmed Is Moving Out Of The United States

It's been a whirlwind month for the Irving, Texas, high school freshman.

Ahmed Mohamed, the 14-year-old from Irving, Texas, who made made national news in September after his arrest for bringing a homemade clock to school, will be continuing his education overseas. He’s headed to the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, his family said in a statement Tuesday.

Mohamed has received plenty of offers since teachers at MacArthur High School mistook his science project for a bomb.

He was put in handcuffs and taken to a juvenile detention center, and the following social media support for the high school freshman landed him meetings with Facebook, Google and President Barack Obama.

But he won’t be going back to school in Texas.

“I loved the city of Doha because it’s so modern,” Mohamed said in the statement. “I saw so many amazing schools there, many of them campuses of famous American universities. The teachers were great. I think I will learn a lot and have fun too.”
