Donald Trump Campaign's Quest For Truth Isn't Going So Well
A spokeswoman said "Barack Obama went into Afghanistan" and that reporters "are literally beating Trump supporters into submission."
Last time we checked on Donald Trump campaign spokeswoman Katrina Pierson — a week and a half ago — she insinuated that President Obama's foreign policy was responsible for the 2004 death of a U.S. soldier (Obama took office in 2009) and said a million Americans have been wounded in the Middle East (it's actually about 50,000).
At the time, Trump campaign co-chair Sam Clovis said of Pierson's inaccuracies, "I think we're fixing it. I guarantee you that won't happen again with her."
How's that going? Let's check in.

Appearing on CNN on Saturday to defend Trump's suggestions that Obama is the founder of ISIS, Pierson said, "Remember, we weren’t even in Afghanistan by this time. Barack Obama went into Afghanistan, creating another problem.”
The war in Afghanistan started in 2001, when Obama was still just state senator in Illinois. (And Trump has said as recently as last year that he was for an Afghanistan invasion.)

Pierson had conflicting explanations for her untruth. First, she said it was just technical problems...
For the record, audio disruptions and echos should be fixed immediately. Especially when you say it out loud on the air. @CNN

...and then, she said she actually just meant to say Syria instead of Afghanistan.
The world nearly came to an end when I said Afghanistan & meant to say Syria. It's not like I said 57 states #bias https://t.co/9DjaHxOtRY

On Monday morning, in an appearance on Fox Business, she made another incredulous statement. Pierson said that "left-wing reporters" have "literally beat Trump supporters into submission."

We haven't been able to find any examples of media members — on the left or right — bringing physical violence upon Trump supporters. But in Pierson's defense, the whole literally/figuratively thing can get confusing sometimes.
Still, there's not really an excuse for misstating basic foreign policy history on national TV as she did over the weekend.
Pierson's comments came as Trump took his war against the media to another level. He spent the weekend mostly tweeting about the "dishonest media" after several stories surfaced that were particularly unflattering about his campaign.
In one tweet, he said media outlets "are allowed to say and write whatever they want even if it is completely false!"
Still, it's probably closer to the truth than when Pierson said this earlier this summer: "I know the news media was reporting that the initial ban was against all Muslims, and that simply was not the case."
