Donald Trump's Response To Hillary Clinton's Miss Universe Attack: She Did Gain A Lot Of Weight

"She gained a massive amount of weight," Trump said, "and it was a real problem."

One of Hillary Clinton's most effective lines of attack against Donald Trump came near the end of Monday night's 90-minute whirlwind debate when she went after his treatment of women.

"And one of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest," Clinton said. "And he called this woman 'Miss Piggy.' Then he called her 'Miss Housekeeping,' because she was Latina. Donald, she has a name."

“Where did you find this?” Trump continually interrupted as Clinton told the story.

Trump answered his own question Tuesday morning.

“That person was a Miss Universe person, and she was the worst we ever had, the worst, the absolute worst,” Trump told "Fox and Friends."

“She was the winner," he continued, "and, you know, she gained a massive amount of weight, and it was a real problem.”

Alicia Machado, the Miss Universe winner, has said that Trump called her those names to her face, allegations that Trump did not deny in his Fox News phone interview.

Machado, from Venezuela, won the 1996 Miss Universe pageant, the first winner after Trump bought the pageant. She has since become a U.S. citizen and plans to vote for Clinton in the November election.

In a video produced by the Clinton campaign — published just after the debate ended — Machado took things even further, saying that Trump brought reporters to watch her work out, which led to her eating disorder.

You can watch that interview below:

Machado held a conference call with reporters, hosted by the Clinton campaign, Tuesday afternoon. She called the election "a bad dream."

"I never thought, I never imagined that 20 years later, I would be in this position, in this moment, watching this guy, again, doing stupid things and stupid comments and so misogynistic," she told reporters, alternating between Spanish and English. "I never imagined something like this. It’s a really bad dream for me."

"But now I’m supporting Mrs. Clinton," she continued. "I believe in her experience. She’s a girl, she’s a smart girl. I’m not a beauty queen, I’m not Miss Universe any more. I’m a working woman, I’m a mother, I have a family, I have my career, I have my business. If my story can open eyes for this election, that is what I’m trying to do."
