Donald Trump's Speech On Hillary Clinton: 5 Things To Know

Trump went after his Democratic rival hard, calling her a "world-class liar."

A day after Hillary Clinton hit him with an attack on his business record and said he would be dangerous for the U.S. economy, Donald Trump fired back Wednesday in a scathing rebuke of the former secretary of state, calling her a "world-class liar."

Trump yet again read prepared remarks from a teleprompter, making for a more measured and muted tone compared to his usual shoot-from-the-hip style. Still, there were a few moments when he detoured from his scripted speech.

Trump offered up several examples of Clinton lying to the American public.

For example, Trump mentioned "her phony landing in Bosnia," where Clinton said, "We had to land a certain way and move quickly because of the threat of sniper fire." Video later emerged of Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea, walking down a peaceful tarmac, and Clinton admitted that she "misspoke."

"Brian Williams’ career was destroyed for saying far less," Trump quipped, referencing the former NBC newsman who, ironically, was anchoring MSNBC's coverage of Trump's speech.

Trump On Immigration

Speaking on immigration and the Orlando shooting, Trump seemed to defend his sweeping ban on Muslims entering the United States, saying, "I only want to admit people who share our values and love our people."

Clinton, on the other hand, wants to admit immigrants "who believe women should be enslaved and gays put to death," he said.

Clinton "Spread Death, Destruction And Terrorism Everywhere She Touched"

Trump went after Clinton hard on the attack of the U.S. embassy in Libya that killed ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

"He was left helpless to die as Hillary Clinton soundly slept in her bed — that's right, when the phone rang at
3 o'clock in the morning, she was sleeping," Trump said.

He said Clinton "denied him the security he asked for, then left him there to die."

Seven congressional investigations into the attack have been made, and while they largely found that security could have been stronger at the embassy, there is no evidence of gross negligence on the part of Clinton or the administration.

Most Taxed Nation In The World?

In one of his off-script moments, Trump said yet again that the United States is the "most taxed nation in the world."

The fact-checking website Politifact has regularly rated this claim "pants on fire," the lowest designation it can give. Still, Trump keeps going back to that well when in fact America ranks somewhere in the high teens or 20s among developed nations, depending on which metric you look at.

What's Next For Trump?

By many accounts, Trump's speech cleared a very low bar of "not totally unhinged" and could be seen as a step in the right direction for the candidate and his campaign.

So what's next to build off this momentum?

Trump is scheduled to fly to Scotland on Thursday for a three-day trip to one of his golf courses.
