A well-designed email scam targeting Netflix subscribers is trying to steal personal information from the streaming service's users.
The Australian cyber security firm MailGuard identified the email scam, which tells the intended victim that they have to update their billing information. If the recipient clicks on the link in the email, they are redirected to a fake Netflix page that asks them to enter their information, including their credit card details, according to MailGuard.
MailGuard says the email is personalized and addressed to the specific victim in an effort to make it more convincing.
"We take the security of our members' accounts seriously and Netflix employs numerous proactive measures to detect fraudulent activity to keep the Netflix service and our members' accounts secure," Netflix said in a statement. "Unfortunately, these scams are common on the internet and target popular brands such as Netflix and other companies with large customer bases to lure users into giving out personal information."
Netflix also advised customers to go to the security section on the website to learn more about keeping personal information safe against phishing scams and other malicious activity.
