Door-To-Door Solicitors: How Do You Make Them Go Away? [Block Talk]

Solicitors can be relentless in convincing you that you need a service or product you never imagined you did. How do you know they're legit?

ACROSS AMERICA — Damaging storms always seem to bring out the door-to-door solicitors who, dressed in official-looking work coveralls with a nondescript logo on the pocket, canvass neighborhoods with offers to inspect and repair your roof or do some other home-repair project.

They may talk about insect or rodent infestations in the neighborhood and warn that if you don’t do something now, they’ll move into your house. They may offer to save us 50 percent — or even more! — on internet or cable TV service. Or maybe it’s religion and salvation they’re peddling.

The point is, they’re relentless. How do you get them to leave you alone without being rude? And how do you know they and what they’re selling are even legit?
