Drunk Man Accidentally Shoots Woman During 'Benghazi' Movie: Police
The woman was in critical condition.

A drunk man accidentally shot a woman Friday during a showing at a movie theater in Washington state after “fumbling” with a hand gun he was carrying, police said.
The woman was found with a gunshot wound to the torso and taken to the hospital, police said, and her condition was unknown.
“Preliminary accounts indicate that an intoxicated suspect entered one of the theaters and was fumbling with a handgun he had in his possession when it went off, striking another patron seated in front of him,” the Renton, Washington, Police Department said in a Facebook post.

The two were inside the Regal Cinemas Landing movie theater watching “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,” Michael Bay’s new movie about the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, police said.
“It got about 15-20 minutes into the film, and I believe the lady in front of us that got shot was actually talking to her husband or significant other, and that’s when we heard the loud pop,” a witness told KOMO.

After the shot went off, the man leave the theater and went home, Robert Onishi, a public information officer with the Renton Police Department, told Patch.
The man was taken into custody after his father called 9-1-1, Onishi said. His father told police that the man “returned home distraught” and admitted that he dropped a gun on the ground, and it went off, Onishi said.
Police will recommend a charge of assault in the third degree, a class C felony that could carry up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine, Onishi said.
The man was legally carrying his handgun, Onishi said.
“But it’s negligent behavior to manipulate that in a theater, in the dark, drunk,” he said. “And the result is somebody gets seriously injured.”
