Fox News Loses Its Shine; No Government Shutdown; UT Austin Stabbing: Patch Morning Briefing

Good morning! It's Tuesday, hopefully your week is off to a good start. Here's what you need to know to begin your day.
Fox News Loses Its Shine
Bill Shine, the co-president of Fox News, is leaving the network, marking the exit of another old hand at the company as viewers question the future of the channel. Shine was given the position of co-president after the former chairman and founder of the channel Roger Ailes was ousted in the midst of a sexual harassment scandal last July. Shine's departure this week follows the dismissal not two weeks before of Bill O'Reilly, a former network star who himself was embroiled in a litany of sexual harassment accusations. (Patch)

Government Shutdown Avoided As Congressional Leaders Reach Deal
Lawmakers will vote on a bill this week to extend government funding through September after Congressional leaders from both parties worked out an agreement — an impressive display of bipartisanship in an increasingly tense political environment. This effectively averts a government shutdown; the feds can keep the lights on. The agreement involves the concession on President Trump's part of funding for a wall on the border with Mexico, a major plank of his 2016 campaign. (Patch)

UT Austin Campus Stabbing
A male student at University of Texas Austin was killed and three others were injured Monday when a fellow student attacked them with a hunting knife, campus Police Chief David Carter reported. An officer was on the scene in less than two minutes and saw a person walking away from a student who was lying on the ground, Carter said. Police were immediately able to take the suspect, identified as Kendrex J. White, 20, into custody. (Patch)

Schools Across The Country Struggle To Prevent Sexual Assault
Untold numbers of students across the country are victims of sexual violence every year, a threat which schools are frequently ill-equipped and insufficiently motivated to prevent or address, according to a report out Monday from the Associated Press. Reporters working on the yearlong story found around 17,000 cases of sexual assaults in state education records and federal crime data at the United States' K-12 schools, though they note that the actual number is much greater given the chronic underreporting of such violations.
