Hillary Clinton Visits Denver Tie Factory That Employs Refugees

Clinton is hitting Donald Trump for making many of his products overseas.

Hillary Clinton on Wednesday was scheduled to visit a Denver tie factory that employs resettled refugees, as she tries to further portray Donald Trump as a hypocrite who says he wants to bring manufacturing jobs back to America but still makes many of his own products overseas.

She stopped by Knotty Tie Co. on Wednesday afternoon in what was a trifecta for her politically. Knotty Tie makes its ties in America, employs resettled refugees from developing nations and is located in the swing state of Colorado.

The trip built off her speech at the Democratic National Convention speech where she rattled off a list of products that Trump doesn't make domestically.

"He also talks a big game about putting 'America First,'" Clinton said. "Please explain to me what part of America First leads him to make Trump ties in China, not Colorado. Trump suits in Mexico, not Michigan. Trump furniture in Turkey, not Ohio. Trump picture frames in India, not Wisconsin. Donald Trump says he wants to make America great again. Well, he could start by actually making things in America again."

The company's manufacturing director, Austin Allan, said he was surprised to hear Clinton give the business an indirect shoutout at the convention.

“I didn’t expect anything like that to happen,” he told KDVR. “She is going to come in and take a tour to see how the manufacturing process works."

The fact-checking website Politifact rated Clinton's claims about Trump's manufacturing as "mostly true," finding evidence of all but the picture frames made in India.

Here's what Politifact found on the ties: "We saw a 'made in China' label on a Trump tie for sale on eBay, and here’s another one on Amazon. Many are listed as 'imported,' and we haven’t come across any that were definitely made in the United States."

Clinton leads Trump by eight points in Colorado, according to RealClearPolitics.
