A problem in a circuit board could cause power steering to shut off, leading on accidents.

Hyundai has issued a recall for 173,000 vehicles after discovering a problem that could cause the car's power steering to go out, possibly leading to an accident.

The recall affects certain 2011 Sonatas, Hyundai's mid-size sedan, according to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The problem occurs in the circuit board that controls the power steering, the documents say. The board can become defective, shutting off the power steering.

When the power steering shuts off, a driver can still control the steering, it just takes more effort and is harder to control. This could lead to a greater chance of an accident.

No crashes or injuries have been reported because of the problem, the documents say.
