A judge gave the State Department until Sept. 13 to begin releasing nearly 15,000 newly discovered emails the FBI found during its investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private server while she was secretary of state.

The extra emails were not part of the 55,000 or so that Clinton turned over to the State Department, which were made public in 14 batches, the last one released in February.

The additional emails were part of the FBI's investigation, which looked at all of the emails stored on Clinton's private server, but these 14,900 never made it over to the State Department.

The State Department is looking through the additional emails to determine which ones, if any, are work-related.

The FBI called Clinton "extremely reckless" in her handling of the emails but did not bring criminal charges against her.

The existence of additional emails was made public as part of a public records lawsuit by a conservative watchdog group against the State Department.
