LOOK UP! Last Supermoon Of The Year Is Here

The moon won't look like this for another year.

But you’ll still want to try to get outside for the last supermoon of the year.

On the nights of October 26 and 27, the moon will look a little bit bigger and brighter in the sky, making for a great view of our celestial neighbor.

The full moon technically peaks Monday morning at 8:05 a.m. ET. But if you look outside on Sunday or Monday night, you should get a pretty good view, weather permitting.

If you miss this one, the next supermoon won’t come around until October 2016, according to SeaSky.org.

What is a supermoon?

A supermoon happens as a combination of two things:

First, the moon’s orbit around the Earth is not a perfect circle. It’s oval-shaped. When the moon is at its closest approach to Earth, it’s called “perigee.”

When a full moon coincides with perigee, voila: supermoon.

The October supermoon is the last of three supermoons in a row.

Last month, a supermoon coincided with a lunar eclipse, which produced some fantastic views around the world.
