'Make America White Again' Billboard Taken Down After Complaints

Rick Tyler, a candidate for Congress, said the ads were in part influenced by Donald Trump.

Tennessee candidate for Congress Rick Tyler has taken down his campaign billboard in P0lk County because of outrage over the inflammatory slogan: "Make America White Again."

After first appearing on June 22, community residents quickly objected to the message, and the billboard was removed.

Tyler's website, containing multiple images of the confederate battle flag, includes links to multiple posts about racially charged subjects, including "Color of Crime," and the "Browning of America."

He also cites Donald Trump in his discussion of his billboard campaign strategy, calling the candidate a "phenomenon" who has " loosened up the overall spectrum of political discourse." Critics of Trump have cited his "Make America Great Again" slogan is implicitly racist, but Tyler's campaign took it a step a further.

Many believed the sign to be a hoax, but multiple outlets have confirmed that it is real, including the myth-busters at Snopes.

Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Ryan Haynes has denounced Tyler's campaign rhetoric in statement.

"There's no room for this type of hateful display in our political discourse," it said. "Racism should be rejected in all its heinous forms in the Third Congressional District and around the country."
