WASHINGTON, D.C. — Departing First Lady of the United States Melania Trump recounted a litany of inspiring and "incredible" actions by Americans that she said left her "humbled to have had the opportunity to represent a nation with such kind and generous people."
A U.S. Twitter account, @FLOTUS, posted a video of the outgoing First Lady's farewell speech on Monday afternoon.
Mrs. Trump praised military service members and their families and law enforcement who "stand guard to keep our communities safe," saying, "We are forever in their debt."

The outgoing First Lady drew attention to the opioid addiction crisis, which had been one of the focuses of her Be Best initiative. "I remember the mothers who have battled the disease of opioid addiction and have overcome incredible hardships. ... I have been inspired by the communities that give these children the support and care they need to grow."
Mrs. Trump asked Americans to "use caution and common sense" amid the ongoing pandemic and to "protect the vulnerable," noting that "every life is precious."

"In the midst of hardship we have seen the best of America shine through," she said.
The First Lady took a moment to address the matter of violence. "Be passionate in everything you do," she said. "But always remember that violence is never the answer and will never be justified."
She spent much of the speech reiterating the reasons she launched Be Best and asking Americans to continue the work represented by the program. Be Best has concentrated on three pillars: well being, online safety, and opioid abuse.
"As I say farewell to my role as First Lady, it is my sincere hope that every American will do their part to teach our children what it means to 'be best,'" she said.
"Parents, educate your children about the courageous and selfless heroes who worked and sacrificed to make this country the land of the free," Trump said. "The promise of this nation belongs to all of us," she added.
She asked Americans to "focus on what unites us, to rise above what divides us."
The First Lady ended the six-minute speech with stated gratitude for "the privilege of having served as your first lady. ... Thank you, God bless you, and God Bless the United States of America."
