Mike Huckabee Will Pay $25,000 For Music At Kim Davis Rally: Report

Huckabee played "Eye of the Tiger" after Davis rose up to the challenge of her rivals.

Mike Huckabee will pay $25,000 for playing "Eye of the Tiger" at a mini-rally he held when Kentucky clerk Kim Davis was released from jail after she refused to sign gay marriage licenses, CNN Money reports.

At the time, Davis was seen in some circles as a hero for defying federal court orders because of her religious convictions. Huckabee was a strong evangelical conservative running for the GOP nomination. They were a perfect match.

So Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor who has run two unsuccessful bids for the GOP presidential nomination, walked Davis out of jail onto a makeshift stage he had set up where supporters had gathered, as the Survivor song blared over the loudspeakers.

Except he never got the band's permission to use it.

Huckabee was sued by Rude Music, a company owned by Survivor guitarist Frankie Sullivan, who co-wrote the song, according to CNN. Huckabee tried to argue that the rally was a religious assembly, so the song wasn't used commercially and would be protected under fair use, CNN reported.

They settled for $25,000, according to a Huckabee campaign finance report published by the network.
