New Poll: Donald Trump Beating Everyone For President--Except Top Democrats

See how far ahead Trump is of Republicans—and how far behind the Democrats.

Donald Trump may be surging past Republican candidates, but he’s still got a long way to go if he wants to beat Hillary Clinton. Or any democratic candidate, for that matter.

That’s according to a new nationwide presidential poll from Quinnipiac University released on Thursday.

Quinnipiac asked voters: if the general election were between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, who would you vote for?

Clinton handedly beat Trump, 48 to 36 percent.

Trump and Vice President Joe Biden? Biden, 49 to 37 percent.

Trump and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders? Sanders, 45 to 37 percent.

“They love him and they hate him. Donald Trump triumphs on the stump so far, but do voters REALLY want him?” Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said in a news release.

“Maybe not so much.”

If Republicans could get someone else through the primary, they may have a chance. The poll put a race between Clinton and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 42 percent Bush, 41 percent Clinton.

And a race between Clinton and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker would go to Clinton but only by 1 percent.

Both races are essentially a tossup given the study’s 2.4 percent margin of error.

The problem for Republicans is that Trump is extending his lead in the crowded primary field.

Among Republican voters, Trump led the pack with 20 percent of the vote. The next closest was Walker with 13 percent and Bush with 10.

That’s up 15 points from May 28, when Quinnipiac’s last poll had Trump with just 5 percent of the Republican vote.
