Next Presidential Debate: Bernie Sanders Versus ... Donald Trump?

The two candidates appeared to agree to a debate late Wednesday night.

Hillary Clinton is finished debating Bernie Sanders. So, Sanders is turning to the only other presidential candidate left in the field: Donald Trump.

In late-night negotiations through Twitter and Jimmie Kimmel, the populous candidates whose platforms couldn't be further from each other on the political spectrum apparently agreed to a debate ahead of California's June 7 primary.

Sanders apparently chose Kimmel as the vehicle to ask the not-so-presumptive-anymore Republican nominee if he wanted to go head-to-head.

"Here's the question from Bernie," Kimmel said. "He asked, 'Hillary Clinton backed out of an agreement to debate me in California before the June 7 primary. Are you prepared to debate the major issues facing our largest state and the country before the primary. Yes or no?'"

"Yes I am," Trump said.

Sanders (who is scheduled to be on Kimmel's show Thursday) was apparently watching Trump's answer. He tweeted this shortly after:

There has been no official announcement from either campaign — or any TV network — that an actually debate has been actually scheduled.

But if it does get that far, Trump had an idea of how to make it worthwhile.

“If I debated him we would have such high ratings and I think we should take that money and give it to some worthy charity,” Mr. Trump said. “If we paid a nice sum toward a charity, I would love to do that.”

(The first time he tried a stunt like that, things didn't exactly end well for said charities.)

Sanders, on the other hand, needs all the publicity he can get.

He currently trails Clinton by eight points in RealClearPolitics' average of state polling. He needs to win the state by roughly 80 if he wants to catch up to the massive pledged delegate lead she holds over him.
