Nordstrom Muddy Jeans: Just $425 Gets You Pants That Are Already Dirty
Yes, these are for real.
MANHATTAN, NY — We all want to give off the impression that we're rugged, rough-and-tumble people without actually having to do any of the dirty work that comes with establishing this reputation. Now, finally, a retailer is responding to this universal desire by selling pre-muddied jeans for $425.
If this product sounds right up your alley, head on over to Nordstrom's website, the luxury department store, and find them for yourself. You're not dreaming — Patch called and confirmed that these pants, the Barracuda Straight Leg Jeans PRPS are 100 percent real.
Well, the mud is not "real." That would be silly, because it would just come off in the wash. The Nordstrom representative wasn't able to tell Patch what exactly the "mud" effect actually is, though.

"It doesn’t say what the mud is made out of," she said. She speculated that it's probably acrylic or paint-based. Whatever it is, the site recommends washing the jeans in a machine on cold and drying them on a line.
Why you would wash pants that were purposely designed to look dirty is a metaphysical question we do not have room to explore in this forum.

Here's how the site describes the item: "Heavily distressed medium-blue denim jeans in a comfortable straight-leg fit embody rugged, Americana workwear that's seen some hard-working action with a crackled, caked-on muddy coating that shows you're not afraid to get down and dirty."
Yes, there's no clearer way to send the message that you're "not afraid to get down and dirty" than spending $425 on a pair of pre-muddied pants. WXYZ pointed out the item this morning.
For anyone who fears that might be out of their price range, however, Patch suggests buying a pair of regular pants and just rolling around in the mud. The only other option is to walk around wearing pants that look "clean."
