Nor'easter: Here's Some Of The Worst Damage, Flooding So Far

Coastal flooding and strong winds are just some of the effects of the nor'easter slamming the Northeast and mid-Atlantic on Friday.

A powerful nor'easter is pounding the Northeast and the northern mid-Atlantic on Friday, with rain and wet snow creating slippery conditions. In coastal areas from New Jersey to Massachusetts, some streets are already experiencing flooding. Government forecasters predict there will no relief from the mix of rain and snow until late Friday or early Saturday morning.

Residents across the eastern seaboard, especially those in coastal areas, are dealing with high winds, power outages and flooding. The National Weather Service says wind speeds have intensified in response to the strengthening of the main low pressure system, and the high winds will stick around till late Friday afternoon as the system moves away from the East Coast.

On the Jersey shore, tidal flooding delayed commuters as water filled roads and even seeped into some trains. Across the Washington D.C. metro area, huge trees were reported down in the streets. High winds closed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland and flipped two tractor-trailers on another Maryland bridge.

The National Weather Service says that across portions of New York, the snow has already exceeded a foot and more is forecasted to fall. In New York City, nearly two inches of rain had fallen by by Friday morning and an additional two inches of rain and wet snow was forecast to fall on the city by the evening.

Winds surpassed 50 miles per hour in parts of Massachusetts and are projected to top 70 mph in the southeastern part of the state. Some coastal towns in the state ordered voluntary evacuations for residences in flood-prone regions.
