Latest: North Carolina Mall Shooting Sends Shoppers Scrambling

One person died at the Northlake Mall, according to police.

CHARLOTTE, NC — One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting at a North Carolina mall sent shoppers scrambling on the last day of shopping before Christmas, according to Charlotte Police and local media reports.

Off-duty officers arrived on the scene of an argument ”between two groups” inside the Northlake Mall in Charlotte around 2 p.m., according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

One armed person pointed a gun at one of the officers and was shot, police said. The person was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. No officers were injured in the shooting.

Multiple guns were found at the scene, police said.

Paramedics were treating one person with a leg injury, one woman who had gone into labor and one person who was having an asthma attack, according to WCNC.

This was not an active shooter situation, police said.

Police asked families to go to the AMC movie theater parking lot to meet up with family members and friends.
