Pokémon Go Comes To The Campaign Trail

It was only a matter of time.

This was inevitable.

Pokémon Go references have now made their way onto the campaign trail, as both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump used the augmented reality smartphone game to promote themselves and their interests Thursday.

Clinton struck first, as her campaign announced an event in Lakewood, Ohio, at one of the game's Pokéstops, places where players can go to upgrade the virtual monsters they catch or buy new in-game upgrades. The candidate herself won't attend, but her campaign offered up the following description of the event:

Later, at a campaign rally, Clinton herself offered up this groan-inducing line: "I don't know who created Pokemon Go, but I'm trying to figure out how we get them to have Pokémon Go to the polls."

Not to be outdone, the Trump campaign had a Pokémon Go-themed barb of its own.

Shortly after Clinton's quip, Trump's Facebook page posted a link to a video titled "Crookéd Hillary No," a loose play on the game's name.

The video shows Clinton being captured by one of the games Pokéballs. After she is captured, a message pops up saying, "Often found lying to the American people, rigging the system, and sharing TOP SECRET emails."

The election is 116 days away.
