Sears Announces Another Round Of Store Closures
The latest closures affect 45 Kmarts and 18 Sears across the country. The stores are expected to close by late January.

Sears Holdings announced that it would be closing another batch of stores, informing associates at 45 Kmarts and 18 Sears that the stores would be closing in late January 2018.
“Sears Holdings continues its strategic assessment of the productivity of our Kmart and Sears store base and will continue to right size our store footprint in number and size," the company said in the announcement made Thursday. "In the process, as previously announced we will continue to close some unprofitable stores as we transform our business model so that our physical store footprint and our digital capabilities match the needs and preferences of our members."
Stores slated for closing will remain open during the holiday season. Any eligible employees will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmarts and Sears, the company said.

The company announced earlier this year that as part of a strategic restructuring, it would be closing unprofitable stores. In an update provided in August, the company said that so far in 2017 it had shuttered approximately 180 stores previously announced for closure and by the end of the third quarter of 2017, it expected to close another 150 stores.
