Rock-Wielding Man at Dallas Love Field Shot by Officer [UPDATED]

Shawn Nicholas Diamond, 29, remains hospitalized in stable condition as he recovers from gunshot wound.

DALLAS, TX -- Law enforcement officials identified the man who was shot and injured by a police officer at Dallas Love Field on Friday.

Shawn Nicholas Diamond, 29, of Edgewood, Maryland, faces charges of aggravated assault and assault family violence, police said. The charges stem from a domestic dispute at the airport that turned violent when the rock-wielding man was shot by police, according to KERA and the Associated Press.

The man remained hospitalized in stable condition as of Saturday, recovering from the gunshot wound. The officer involved in the shooting had come to the aid of the woman in the dispute with Diamond when the suspect allegedly came toward the officer with a rock in his hand.

DALLAS, TX -- A man who police say attacked a woman with rocks was shot and injured by a Dallas police officer outside Dallas Love Field Airport Friday, Randall Blankenbaker, assistant chief of the investigations bureau, told reporters at a press conference.

An officer assigned to the airport came to the lady's aid around noon when the suspect rushed at the officer, police said. The officer was able to "separate himself" from the suspect when he came toward him again. The officer then discharged his weapon and struck the suspect, police said.

Police believe the suspect was the father of the woman's children. The unidentified man was transported to the hospital, and his condition is not known at this time. Blankenbaker said he was conscious at the time he was taken to the hospital.

Blankenbaker pointed to a car at the scene that had been damaged by rocks.

At the time of the shooting, some passengers in the security line entered the airport without being screened. As a result, all passengers were pulled out of the airport to be screened by security again leading to long security lines. Blankenbaker stressed the airport had not been shut down.

The airport said passengers should expect three hours in line.

The suspect was not believed to be in possession of a weapon but had a rock when he was involved in the altercation with the officer, according to police.

The officer will be placed on routine administrative leave while authorities investigate the shooting.

Blankenbaker did not have information on how the suspect ended up at the airport.

In one Instagram video from the scene, sounds of gunshots are heard, and chaos ensues. Police said they are aware of the videos posted to social media.
