Texas Gov. Prematurely Tweets 'Congrats' To Astros; Astros Lose

Not the best day for him on Twitter.

After the seventh inning of the American League Division Series, the Houston Astros were beating the Kansas City Royals 6-2 and were two innings away from advancing to the American League Championship Series.

Done deal, right?

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (or whoever runs the verified Twitter account) seemed to think so. He tweeted the following (which is now deleted but has been preserved forever via the magic of a screenshot):

One problem: The Royals scored six runs in the top of the eighth and ended up winning the game 9-6.

The series is now tied 2-2. The decisive Game 5 will be played Wednesday in Kansas City.

No word on whether Abbott will be in attendance (or ever show his face in Houston again).

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback didn’t wait long to get a jab in at his counterpart:

Update: Shortly after the game, another verified Twitter account bearing the governor’s name tweeted, “Hey @Astros fans. Unfollow --> @GovAbbott. Follow the REAL Greg Abbott right here. No predictions. Just support.”

The account that prematurely tweeted the congratulations says it provides “Official news from the Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott.”

The second account claims to be the governor’s “personal Twitter feed.”

Either way, someone isn’t having the best day right now.
